Getting Trouble Codes on 300E

Check engine light is on. Have read threads about blinking LED's. I have an 88 300E. Where are these blinking codes on my car or do I need a tester to see the blinking codes. ON my volvo there were lights in the diagnostic center in the engine capratment that would blink codes. Hekp Please

I'm not sure about your car, but on my California '90 300se, there is a diagnostic connector (x92) near the battery that has a button on it to bridge certain pins to display codes by flashing its built-in LED. If you have the x92 connector on a non-california car, you could check out this page which shows you how to build a code reader (if your car has the requisite pins).
