Calling MB DOC. Trans question
Thank you for getting back to me on my post "goes into reverse very slowly"
My question is - is the trans reverse adjustment on the out side of the tranny? and if so what would be the proper adjustment procedure. Thank you 1973 450sl |

The reverse adjustment bolt is on the RIGHT(passenger) side of the trans.
Above the kickdown solenoid. You should un-screw that solenoid so you have room to adjust the band. Loosen the jam nut, TIGHTEN the bolt to 40-50inch-lbs & then back-off adjustment bolt 1.75-2 turns. Re-tighten jam nut & reinstall solenoid. SOLENOID has O-rings & crush seal that should be replaced.

You have to modify the adjustment bolt first.
Here is the link for the band adjustment procedure. http://www.mastertechtrans.com/porsche/slkd/ |

On the 1973 450SL the adjustment bolt ISN'T a sheer-off style like the later ones had! UNLESS some one replaced the unit with a reman unit!

DOC relax, we are on the same winning team, and if it’s the twist off bolt style he will now know how to adjust it.
