230e No ignition no power no anything!

Hi all,

New member here looking for a little help. I have a 230e (1984) It has been sat for a good long while with a flat battery. I gave it a new battery and turned the key one click to be presented with a fully lit ignition, great! Only problem is, I turned the key fully and was greeted by a click and nothing more. After the click there was no power, no ignition no hazard lights or anything. I've checked the fuse box in the engine bay (located at the top left) and all fuses are fine. Please advise as i'm stuck and not sure what to do! I really want to get this car started and back on the roads, she's a beauty and i intend to keep her that way! Are there more fuse boxes to check or am I faced with a different problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Many thanks,

Jack

Go clean and re-tighten the battery terminals.
If that does not help , try a jumper cable from the bat neg to a good ground on the engine

Still no luck

hi,

Tried all the above and still no luck, I think it's a fuse issue. Could anyone give me a clue as to where I might find another fuse box? I've checked the one at the top left of the engine bay and all fuses are fine. Any other ideas from anyone? i'm really stuck here!

Thanks,

Jack

Have you checked the starter? it may be blocked.
Usually the click comes from the solenoid that activates the starter but the motor do not rotate.
good luck.

nope :(

i'm thinking it has to be a fuse or something as there's no power at all, no ignition lights or interior light, hazards, full beam or any of the things that should work without ignition!

HELP!

Thank ye,

Jack

hi again,

still getting nowhere, tried another battery, tried jumping from another car and STILL no luck

Is there another fuse box I should be looking for? Can everyone rack their brains and ask friends to rack their brains etc etc as i'm goin upto the car tomorrow and want to be able to try something new! What could cause a complete power loss? I've never known the hazards not to work unless the battery is disconnected! So in my mind it has to be something along those lines, perhaps an in-line fuse or something, but where?

PS.
There is no click now, no anything

As always any help is much appreciated,

Many thanks,

Jack

Hi Jack some cars are different when they go to different countries,if you find your fuse box check if you have power on any of the fuse with key out.Than try doing thew same thing with ignition on,(well i know there is no power on the instrument clust but just try it to see if any other fuses get power ...If not it might be possible that your igniion lock or ignition lock gave up.Does it feel easier turning the ignition lock at all? There are fuses and relays for stuff like starting and accesories, but you say everything is dead,it is either like i sayed the ignition lock/cylinder or a ground strap brocke to the battery.Check resistance from the ground cable (of course battery disconected) to a good known ground on the engine or the andd maybe chassis. It could be possible that the ground or possitive cables are rotted throu. You have an older car and it wont have a in line fuse or anything like that that i know of.
I think it is the ignition cylinder shaft brocke and you are spining free in the ignition switch.Try it and let us know Harald
