No Guts for My 95 S-420

Any help on performance products for my 1995 S-420. Love the car to death, with only 53k miles, love the ride and comfort... but toooo slow.

Help

Wink What is too slow?

It all depends on "how fast you want to go?" as someone else in the forum just said in another response. I have three Mercedes that all run pretty well within their limitations, but I have a Corvette that will do 160+, if only I had a place to do that ?! My 89 420SEL is similar to your S model and it is not a record breaker off the line, but will perform well in the 70 to 100 range of cruising on the Interstates ..... These V8's are not meant to be true speed demons, but they do have many other good attributes as you mentioned.

Get an SL to go with your S and you will be in good shape!

Too Slow S-420

Good thougts... although room for another seems to me an issue these days, recently picked up a sweet 1982 Datsun 280-Z pristine shape (under 31K miles) for $2,000.00 and just added a 2005 Harley Soft tail Deluxe... one more car and I think there will be a vacancy... in my bed room if you catch that drift!!

Any ideas on the 130mph rev-limiter or govenor?

Thanks

There's probably a chip available - but it probably wouldn't do much. For maybe a thousand dollars you could probably find and install a shorter rear axle ratio (i.e. higher number). Or the cheap route is just to start manual shifting and holding gears longer. Your engine will come alive at higher rpms - it's just geared to stay under 2k rpms all the time.

Dont get me wrong.. the car gets up and moves but like all performance items (Cars, Bikes, Audio etc.) you get used to the performance.. its nice to be able to upgrade to higher levels. The car was recently tuned-up (Wires Plugs K & N air filters etc...) Seems every time I buy a car, upgrading it is either impossible or bloody expensive.. I have investigated Turbo/superchargers, computer chips, exhaust systems.. blah.. blah..blah.

I think the next car I buy I will investigate upgrades FIRST>

You got it backwards. Here's the lesson I've learned: Don't buy a car unless you're happy with its performance in stock form. Period.

"Upgrades" either 1) don't satisfy or 2) potentially shorten engine life. And bang for the buck is poor.

Ditto!

BTW, I recently bought a 2002 C320 wagon for my daughter. That thing runs sweet. It is like a sports car with a huge trunk!

i understand what you are saying John. There are a lot of things you can do to your car.A supercharger will get you up to 400 hp and hope you have 20,ooo buck in your pocket for it.you can get cams ,chip, but everything is very expensive.
