Stuck in 3rd gear and no dip stick sound like an early 722.6 transmission, you are stuck in limp mode, next step is access the any codes in the modules. If it’s the 722.6 transmission changing the fluid will not help.

i heard that the early models are plagued with a variety of problems inluding failure of the TCM, conductor plate, vlave body and so on.
is this a reliable transmission?
and would a later model 722.6 fit, or does the whole electronic system have to be replaced too?
