89 w124 300e engine cooling fan

we replaced a head gasket recently and
now 1000 miles later the cooling fan and clutch
are making lots of noise... some bolts were missing
from the fan... but the clutch is still making noise

i found a piece of metal and i think it may be missing some bolts..

anyone have a diagram or can anyone explain how it goes
back together.

What pieces are missing, exactly? If the clutch is physically busted, I'm not sure it's user repairable.

I'd take the fan and clutch off, along with the belt, and sping the fan pulley to check and see if that's the source of the noise. If the fan bracket bearing lets loose, that's bad stuff.

If any of the fluid has leaked out, you may be better off just getting a new one. It has a certain amount of viscous fluid inside of it which is controlled by a bimetallic strip (which bends accorsing to temperature) that pushes in and out on a pin (which directs the fluid to either "lock" the fan or let it freewheel more).

How is it making noise? Is it the bearing that is busted?
