Curious : Could over-tightening wheel bearings cause damage?

Could over-tightening wheel bearings cause damage? Other than to the bearings themselves?

if the bearings REALLY overheat they can weld themselves to the spindle!

The spec. for mine is .01-.02 mm end play,so yeah, if you "overtightened" them they won't last long.
