Unhappy Broken hood release cable

My 260E hood release cable seems to be broken or unattached. Any ideas on how to release the hood by going through the grille with a screwdriver or small rod to move the release lever?

i usually take

a coat hanger and straighten it out, put a small hook on the end and go fishing for something that will unlock the hood. the cable or the latch. it has always worked for me when they break.

I've used a long thin screwdriver to push the latch open.
