Hi

The paint on my wiper arm has faded (turned grey), and the part attached to the wiper blade has rusted a bit due to paint peel-off. I would like to remove the wiper arm, and spray it with some new black paint.

However, the wiper arm looks quite difficult to remove. Any good tips to remove the wiper arm?

When the arm is removed, I would also like clean and lube the moving parts. Is it suitable to use lithium grease to lube the moving parts?

Quick question: While you had that blower motor out, did you notice any foam type insulation in there anywhere? I have a 92 400E and peices of foam shoot out all over the place when I turn the AC or defrost, etc. on. I figure it's deteriorating foam insulation somewhere in the AC system, but want to know were I should look before tearing the whole dash apart. Thanks...

i didn't notice any insulation anywhere. i did take some compressed air and blow everything out before it put things back, but their was not much trash, it seems unusual for such a late model car to have any deterioration in the system.

i know...thats what I'm worried about!!!

I just replaced the blower regulator on a 92 300e. The regulator had foam tape on the edges and is located in the airstream directly in front of the evaporator.

The foam was disintegrating (falling apart) and pieces were scatered in the housing. Maybe small bits could be carried by airflow through the evaporator to the interior.

There is also foam that deteriorates on the flapper door at the blower. When it goes you will be able to hear that door close every time you turn on the key. Ask me how I know.

I used Molycote 33 medium.

there are several doors in the airbox that were built with foam around them that over the years will fall apart and come through the vents.this is one of the sneaky ways that mercedes uses to keep us buying newer cars.

I've read here that transmission fluid also makes a good lubricant for this part...

Not very water resistant. You want a hi tech grease that will stay put so you never have to go back in there again.

Most flapper doors I've ever seen have this foam.
It prevents the doors from "slamming" shut & eliminates whistling noises from the blowermotor when they're closed.

As to the foam. I remove all the old stuff with 3m general purpose adhesive remover, quite a messy project. Then I use this material they sell at Lowes for lining shelves. I've tested it and it does not seem to degrade in freezing temperatures, hot temperatures or water. The photo below shows it on the door. You do not need to cover the whole door since it does not all make contact when the door is shut.

As to the lube for wiper the Molycote is good for lots or reason one of which it that it is hard to remove with water. If you wash your hands with soap and water you will not get all of it off.
