'97 S320 Timing chain replace

I have a 97 S320 with 93K miles. How difficult is it to replace timing chain and rework heads? Are any special tools required or gotsha I should be aware of. Any insight would be greatly appreciated......

Presuming that your car has the M104 in-line 6, why would you think that you need to replace the chain? With proper oil changes it should literally be fine indefinitely, as in over 200,000 miles.

Head gaskets are a known issue, but valve jobs on the this engine are rarely needed, according to what I have heard and read.

What are the symptoms that cause you to think you need to do this?

'97 S320 in-line 6 timing chain replace

The car is running perfect with no oil leaks. I based my request solely on other previously owned cars with a typical 90K requirement. I am glad to understand 200+K is expected.

Are there any other items i should be aware of other than the the normal wear & tear items (belts, filters, etc)?

Thanks for the response

Larry

Just make sure you do oil changes regularly. Occasionally the ECG on the 104 will get plugged causing a check engine light. Other than the head gasket and wiring harness on the 93 - 95 models the engine is good!

Re work the "heads". Not to be a smart a** but pop the hood and take a look. I6's only have one head, thats need to know info if you plan on doing the chain!:D

I think your nuts, roll on another 150k miles or so then check the chain for stretch. I6's chains last a very, very long time.
