Addt'l info needed for cell phone removal W210

I previously posted about removing the cell phone head unit from my '98 E320 and got as far as removing the shifter surround plate and the entire ashtray asssembly. Buuuut, I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to remove the cell phone head unit (dialer?)... I've heard there are tabs in the back that release the unit - couldn't find 'em. I've also heard that there are slots in the front where you stick a thin screwdriver to release the unit which then slides out -- I couldn't find any slots for a screwdriver...

Anybody have any more detailed instructions on how to get the darn thing out? Pictures maybe?

TIA,
-Mike

I don't have a phone installed. Is this piece located where I keep my sunglasses, right below the radio head unit?

If so: to remove this piece, use keys to remove the radio head unit (don't disconnect the wires). Feel around at the bottom of the slot, in the back of the plastic. There's a tab there. Push down on that tab and pull the other part out.

You can also get to this tab by removing the ashtray and reaching behind the part, but it's harder to find that way.

Matt,

You are thinking about the correct piece. The cars w/o phone have a storage cubby there which is what I would like to put into my car.

Trying not to sound stupid -- I don't understand what you mean when you say "use keys to remove the radio head unit". What key are you talking about?

There are plastic "keys" that radio installers use to remove radios and headunits. They go into slots onthe face of the radio and push in a tab that releases the h/u. Then the h/u can slide out.

They sell a set of these at Performace Products. I've seent hem in their catalogs.
