W123 seat travel limited??

On my W123 '82 300D the driver seat has limited travel both forward and back. That is using both the adjustment handles. A few months ago I took the seat out, but could not see what was limiting the travel. When I get to the end of travel, it feels like a solid blocking, not a soft limit. Previously the limited travel seemed to be intermittent, some times it would go all the way back and forward , but other times it was limited. Now it is always limited. I plan to take the seat out again tomorrow to try to find the problem. Has anyone else run into this and/or know how to fix it?

The travel is usable for my wife who usually drives the car but does not adjust far enough back for me to drive it comfortably. Planned to use it for a long trip over the Xmas, so need to get it fixed.

have you

tried lubricating the tracks and mechanism?

it doesnt seem logical but nothing else comes to mind.

if that doesnt work i would take it back out and have another look.
