oh, no

I have a 1995 E300 D with a non turbo 6 cylinder. the #5 glow plug broke during removal. is it ok to spray lube down the injector to loosen the carbon? or does anyone know a machine shop in NJ that can remove it.

how lube can hurt anything.

Post over in the diesel forum. I hate to say it but the head probably needs to come off.

I had the same problem only with #2. I was aboe to drill mine out. The whole sordid episode is in the archives. Do a search for "glow plug" by "sokoloff."

I've had several 606's in the shop in the last few weeks with stubborn glow plugs. They were all in because of non-functioning glow plugs and when we went to replace them they wouldn't budge. We see this every year as soon as the weather turns cold. Soaking them doesn't help. All we can do is try and twist em' out. The almost always break and we end up drilling them out. We've never had to remove the cylinder head. Once we get them out we remove the pre-chambers. This makes it simple to get the debris out of the cylinders. After the job is done, don't be surprised if the engine knocks like crazy for a short time after it's started up. Lots of junk gets knocked loose when doing this job. It takes a short drive to clear everything out. Good luck

prechamber removal

I am almost ready to drill out the plug. using a ezout has almost drilled it out for me. How do I remove the prechamber? I have tried to remove the injector but I have not been able to find a socket long enough. I have looked at 5 different stores, sears was out of them. can I remove the top of the injector?

If my memory serves me I think those injectors need a special socket. I think you can get them through MB.

longshore1 - What is the staus of your GP ? What has been your experience ?

I have exactly the same problem as yours. My No.5 GP quit working and when I tried to remove it, it did not budge and the head of GP got rounded. I also tried to remove the No.4 and the head broke off while the rest of the GP is intact and still works by the way. I am curius as to how you resolved your problem, I am in SJ.
