Is there any possible way to fix the Ignition Control Unit for 560SEL 1989?

With this kind of stuff, there's some electronics, and then a big rugged high-voltage output transistor. 99% of the time, the output transistor fails, sometimes from age, sometimes from it's control circuitry leaving it on all the time and burning it up (a lot like the horizontal output transistor on a CRT-based TV set).

I'll bet it is a Bosch P/N and not available as a separate item. But there are functional replacements out there.

If the unit is disassembleable, it would be interesting to do a post-mortem on it...

Well I disassembled it :(

It's so complex unit, they use sliver molded and some selecon melt which is impossible to repair. there was a failing silver wire (actually a capillary wire) that is originallt melted with the selecon. No handy tool would fix it, it's all a factory made. In Kuwait 90% of its failure is that capillary wire. I also changed the ignition coil with a new one as recommended.

Hello zcc,

can you post pictures of the dissassembled unit?
It will help everybody.

I left the EZL unit (Ignition Module) at the garage. I will try to so. But belive me it's really impossible to fix it's irreparable.

By the way, it has 8x8 pins (European specifications) not like the US one which has 4x4 pins. So it's not like the one in the picture.
