I recently bought a 76 Mercedes 280Se and after a few minor repairs, was all prepared to start it up,only to find out that some hoses (vacuum/fuel???/both) were not attached anywhere. This after gas spewed everywhere from one hose almost starting a fire.Does anyone know where I can find out which hose goes where w/out taking it to a shop?

Need some more info!
Where is the fuel coming from? The injection pump, around the cylinders? Is the fuel return line hooked up? Cold start valve?

If the car is a 280Se, then it has fuel injection, not a carburetor. Are you sure it is not a 280S? If it has a carb and a fuel line is leaking, it is either the return line or the supply line.
