Does OVP/fuse failure always take out the ABS too?
Does anyone know?
If so then it's an easy way to rule out the OVP as a problem.

ON the W201 chassis the answer is YES!

OK then thanks big DOC, on which cars is the answer NO? What about W201s with the dual-fuse type OVP or with ASD - on these can/does the OVP partly fail taking out only some systems? I am referring specifically to my ASD. I have a much too high resistance between the computer and the ASD operating solenoid valve. Have checked the resistances of sensor, every wire, and ONLY the OVP lies in the circuit to be causing the high resistance. Yet my ABS works perfectly and cold starting is not as awful as with a bad OVP (but not great - I'm saving that one for another thread) cheers matey, Russell

To answer my own question, and somewhat controversially oppose M.B.DOC :
Due to an ASD fault I have realised two pins on the OVP are not being connected when the OVP powers up, though they should be. I took my OVP out, and there was no change to the engine's running ?!?! The ABS light did come on now that it was removed though, which means it was doing something. So I took the step of bridging the 2 pins that should be connecting myself (87E and 87L). Lo and behold, engine running becomes more normal, laggy throttle response *seems* to be gone, and ASD problem fixed. So, on first impressions, I would suggest a portion of my OVP has failed, without taking out the ABS. But it should be noted that this is a twin-fuse OVP, on an ASD equipped W201, which is not available in America! Russell
