83 300 D transmission

I have an 83 300D with 205,000 on the clock. Can anyone tell me if the flaring from 3 - 4th gear is a true sign that the trans is tired? What should I try in the vacuum adjusting sequence to see if I can get the shifting better. I have read many articles on proper adjustment and have checked all of the vacuum values. I have good vacuum, the modulator is adjusted properly, etc. It shift fine in all the other gears except 3 to 4th. Does lengthening or shortening the Bowden cable have any affect on the flare?

Does it change differently as it warms up?

Shew... 1AM? ... :sleeping3 :sleeping2

It does change slightly when it warms up but, with the cold NJ temperatures it's hard to tell if it's the cold oil or the cronic flare issue.

you can try turning the vac down on the bleed valve on th IP.
do this on a warm tranny.
the bowden cable will adjust when the tranny shifts, clockwise for earlier shifts.

'81 300TD w/ same flaring problem

Hello,

New to group as well as Mercedes vehicles. My '81 300TD w/ 165,000 miles has the same flare at 3-4 shift. It happens frequently when cold and very rarely after it has warmed up. Any help would greatly be appreciated. I'm learning new things every day about this car - Love it!

Thank you,

Brad Uebelhor
