W202 IP Clock Lighting

On my '98 C230, the clock is barely visible in the right hand corner of the instrument panel. It appears to be the same type of display as the temp indicator. The digits can just barely be seen during night, and worthless in daytime.

Is is simply a burned out lamp on the back of the IP, or is a replacment display needed?

likely the bulbs are bad

Correct, Carson. I found the IP lighting configuration on Alldata, and the clock is lighted by a simple lamp. Followup question: anyone know if the bulb can be replaced without pulling the steering wheel? I know how to pull the cluster, but I'm hoping there is enough room to just get at that bulb.

I've been told you pull the cluster as far as you can, then turn the cluster & the wheel ( at the same time ) to the right, just enough to pull the cluster all the way out.
Unless, of course, you have an adjustable steering wheel. ;)

all the illumination bulbs can be replaced, due to having the cluster out i suggest you replace all illumination bulbs only,
