quick question diesel related

w123 300D sedan fuel tank strainer.. what size socket do i need.. ive seen 36 mm to 46 mm discussed here.. and what will i need to use it . i have 1/2 socket wrench .. id probably need an adapter.. so what size socket?

Can't be certain on the W123, but the W126 uses 46mm. 1 13/16 would also be fine, but, it's only available in 3/4" drive. Due to space limitations, you can't use an adaptor on the W126 to get it down to 1/2".

I understand that there is a special short socket from M/B with 1/2" drive that is the proper tool for the job. Wish I had one.:o

1 13/16 will work, but it has to be a short socket as there is an obstacle in the way if you try to use a longer one.

Thanks Ray. That's exactly the tool I recalled. I'll check on the cost.
