Bad MPG need help

Don't want to make this long. First off what is changed on my 90 420SEL. Went from 20-22 mpg on the road. My EHA valve started leaking, always smelled gas. So I changed it. Boy did I screwup. Should have delt with the smell and the chance of fire. Now I get about 8mpg in town and a whopping 13.8 on the road. I have tried to adjust it many times from 1/4 per change in all directions to 1 1/2 each way from out of the box. After each adjustment I would set my duty cycle to around 40-50%. That is where it was when I started this. I have searched and have changed my o2 sensor with a 5.0 mustang and that is when I got it to 14 with out stumbling at take off or exceleration above 30mph. It is smooth but awful mpg. New plugs cap and rotor look very good and no cracks even checking with graphite powder. That will show any cracks in anything. Wires ohm ot to specs not more than 2% difference in them . I am about to go back to my orginal eha valve and deal with the gas smell. please chi9me in for help gas is to expensive thanks Alan
