Hi, I own a 1985 190E 8V, the other day it was warm here in Philadelphia. I had the sunroof open, it worked fine. Now I tried to open it, nothing!!! No sound, no movement, nothing. Anyone have any idea what might be the problem?n Thanks in advance for your anticipated cooperation.

Dorsey, the obvious is the fuse.
If the roof hasn't been used for some time, as last fall season, it may be stuck on the rails that should have been lubed regularly.
To move the roof, into the trunk with you and on the driver's side, behind the side panel, via a small opening, you can manually crank the roof into motion.
The wrench is in the tool kit. If my memory is right it is a 13mm hex on the drive for the motor. The direction for move is labelled.
If the roof moves to the open position, spray a lubricant on the exposed rails and work the roof open and closed until you have enough motion to apply more lub.
Replace the fuse if it is open and try the electrical switch for motion.
If this hasen't totally confused you then drop back ten and scream real loud.

Hello Mr. Swinford, thanks for your comments. I had a mechanic check the fuses and he said they were OK. As far as the Mercedes tool kit, my car did not come with one. However, I went to the junk yard and purchased a complete kit from a BMW 500 series. The kind that fold down from the trunk boot. I liked that when I had a 735IL and found it useful and handy. They didn't have any for Benz'. I only paid $5.00 bucks and it is loaded and almost new. Anyway, I will try as you suggested, hopefully one of the wrenches in there will fit or i'll buy one. Thank you!!

$5.00 for a complete BMW toolkit, unheard of! Dorsey, go back there and buy all that they have, put them on ebay and make enough $ to get your sunroof fixed by a professional.

Hey Ron, this is straight on the up and up!! All I did was go to one of the "U-Pull It" used auto parts places. Most of the BMW's there have the kits in the trunk. Most people don't bother with stuff like that so the dealer doesn't care about them. Truthfully, I could have gotten four or five of them from the 300 series, but I like the 500 series for my 190, the ones in the 700 series are to large. Go get one!!

I sure will sir. It is snowing like crazy here now so I will back off the sunroof for a short time. When it gets warm again I will work on it and let you know what I have found out. Re the tool kit. I easily installed it in my trunk on the lid just like my beemer. Its out of the way and handy. Have a good day, talk to you again soon!

Hi again, I am in Philadelphia. We just had seven inches of snow. There is expected to be another storm Sunday. If it gets colder, they say it will be about the same amount of snow again. I hope it gets warmer, it's real hard washing your car in the cold!! I wet wipe it down most everyday when it's not raining, hot or cold out. When it's dry out I usually use one of those California brushes to get the dust off, works good and keeps the was time to a minimum. I was in Waco,Huston and Dallas when I was in the service awhile back,nice country. Take it easy hope to talk again soon!!

I too use a dust mop for in between baths; works great.
I got my first mop while on Holiday in South Korea, Soul. All the drivers had one and would dust every chance they could. It would not be uncommon for them to get out of thier cars while in a traffic jam and dust away.

I can't imagine getting out of my car in KL traffic and dusting away unless I was under SEVERE STRESS! Hopefully, that has not happened, and I don't intend it to happen.

I can't imagine stepping out of my Benz in heavy traffic tp dust it off either because someone would have at me with some sort of retaliatory weapon.
