Let me be the first to mention that you may have noticed banner ads for the new Liquivac that is now available through PartsShop. And the competition does not have it for sale. In fact, the only place that I know of to get one is PartsShop! I was probably the first member here to actually have one in their possession!
The older Topsider design, as many of us know, was bulky, hard to store, sometimes unreliable, and was much more likely to be damaged than the new one is, due to the pump sticking out of the TS at an almost 45° vertical. In this model, the pump is in the handle, the walls of the tank are real thick, and you can store it in a space the size of the box it came in, 18"x10.5"x7". The new Liquivac is much more elegant, easier to store, takes up less space, and is virtually indestructible. Well, if you really intended to destroy it, I'm sure you could figure out a way. :p I love it! The first time I used it, my neighbors all wanted to know what it was, and where I got it! And when I took it to the oil recycler to be emptied, they wanted to know the same things! And, hey, you can also use it to change transmission fluid, or siphon out fuel...

Atta boy Scott
I've seen the new kid on the block, and elegant he am.
All due respect to anything new; but I'll take my El Cheapo 12 volt electric pump and 2 1/2 tank at a cost of less that $20.00 any old time. My unit is about 8 years old now and has changed my oil every 3500 miles. If you haven't seen El Cheapo look see at http://home.earthlink.net/~asherson/Don Happy Trails Beep Beep from Houston!!! Thank you, Scott, for helping to get us "hooked up". Once we saw the LiquiVac we knew it was meant for MercedesShop!
Besides, with all the attention FastLane is getting we had to do something to spiff up PartsShop.

i am interested in purchasing the liquivac topsider for changing my oil. can i still change my oil hot? i like Larry's idea of getting it hot and churned up before draining to remove as much contaminants as possible.
dose the topsider only change cold oil? also, what is the inside diameter of the suction hose? thanks, adam

The banner ads are located at the bottom of every page in the Shop Forum except Tech Help.
There is also a banner at the top of the D.I.Y. page.

Added Bonus!
It could take the place of electrically powered suction in the event of power failure in a triage, or surgical situation!!!

Adam changing oil hot
Adam, I too prefer changing the engines motor oil when the oil is hot.
My El Cheapo withstands the elevated temperature experienced from hot motor oil. I am not in trying to down grade the new kid on the block; there's just another way to do the same job. Adam try: http://home.earthlink.net/~asherson/Don This may file your need. Happy Trails Beep Beep from Houston!!! Donald, El Cheapo |

But, Don...
If your "custom" rig can handle high temp oil, and you're draining it into a standard gas can, then this Liquivac can definitely take the heat, as it's made from the same materials, it's just a lot thicker than the standard gas can. maybe the manufacturer's warning about heat is just a disclaimer?

It ain't the can
Scott, the reply as to hot oil or no, was no because the hot oil may damage the seals in the pump, not damage the container, which by the way my container is 2 1/2 gallons.
You could use any size can you want. In reading the remarks about the older Top Sider, was mentioned if the slurping sound isn't heard in 15-20 minutes, you should----. With my 12 volt powered oil pump, it slurps the crankcase empty in 2-3 minutes, not 15-20. Thanks but no thanks, my unite appears to be the best kid on the block and about 1/2 the price.
