I have 1986 300E (168k). Lately it seems to shift erratically. Meaning that it shifts sometimes form 2nd to 4th as you accelerate. Only when you floor it it holds 3rd gear.
I have heard of transmission adjustments.. Is this true on these transmissions. I have changed the fluid and filter and gasket about 10k ago. It also seems to be a bit slugish when you downshift (kickdown), I adjusted the cable per the manual, also the solenoid checks fine. I also checked the vacuum modulator and that seems to be fine. Any advise?? Do I need to adjust the transmission? If so how? Thanks for your help

Be sure the level of the fluid is correct. It should be 10mm below the bottom mark when cold and at idle.
The bowden cable should be snapped on with no preload, but no looseness either.
