w124 wiring question re:rear dome light

On my 88 300e the rear dome light does not work. Fuses and dash switch both are good. I recall reading that there is a wiring connector (X-18??) and that it is in or near the rear passenger door, but I wanted to be sure before I started taking things apart. Could someone tell me if there is a wiring connector and where it is located? Thanks.

BTW, I used this holiday weekend to replace a defective cruise control switch and instrument cluster, and I wouldn't have ever attempted it without the help available from this awesome board. My sincere thanks to everyone who takes the time out of their own busy days and evenings to share their knowledge and thoughts with those of us amateurs who wish to learn a little bit about how these machines and parts work and tackle repairs ourselves.

Yes, front is fine, but the rear doesn't illuminate.

I am curious how you checked the switch. Just because it illuminates doesn't mean it is working. And you said nothing about checking the bulb, the most likely cause of the problem. Anyway, pry out the housing, check the bulb, and check for voltage at the contacts.

The switch on the center console controls the rear dome lights. It has three positions if memory serves, and one position won't allow the rear domelights to come on at all. Are you sure it is in the right position?
