1) You do not need to disconnect the tube from the intake manifold.
2) 2 ft. or so.
3) Cold.

However, I had a difficult time with the speedo cable method. I removed the intake tube that goes across the top of the engine from the filter, blocked the throttle plate open and worked from the intake manifold side into the tube. It is the intake manifold end that gets plugged. I made a curved guide tube from copper tubing and ran the speedo cable through that. You can just see the intake end of the EGR tube when looking down the throttle body.

Thanks for the input! I think the weather will allow me to take a look next week. If this is blocked what CEL code would generate?

What code , if any , are you getting???
Or are you just cleaning the tube out b/c you read it somewhere??

The first diagnostic step is to see if the tube is blocked.
That is a simple test of applying hand vac at the EGR vac input port at idle and see if the engine runs very rough when you do... if it doesn't , the tube is blocked .. if it does , it isn't.

My E320 M104 egr tube is 3' long. I measured it when I had it out some time ago. Contaminants usually collect only at the first few inches from the connection at the intake.

The o2 sensor was replaced 50k ago, I replaced all the plastic vac lines with new. Thanks, all

p0411 ...

So, why are you looking at the EGR system??
That code is for an AIR system flow detected fault. Nothing to do with EGR.
