87 560SEL Suspension

Just purchased this car, first MB. What a great drive. Car is in very good condition but the rear suspension is hard, especially over bumps and potholes. And have a lot of those in Michigan. I have purchased the MB cd manual. Have studied the rear suspension system. Where do I begin? Hyd fluid is clean and full. I would like to do this without purchasing special gauges and/or tools. Also the right front window will not lower. Switch? It worked when I got the car in early December, just stopped. Thanks for any input. look forward to being able to contribute here as well as asking for help.

First of all. If the Hydraulic sus. on the 560 is in good working order the ride would be fabulous and the fluid in the tank should only be at the half way mark or so. I think you should check the accumulaors first, then the hyrdo shocks and lines. If the accumulators are broke, its an easy fix, Just hope the shocks aren't busted or you will shed out big $$ unless you do a conversion to regular shocks.

You need to replace the accumulators, about $100 each, two required. It'll also take about 2-2.5 qts of MB suspension fluid to flush the system. Don't forget to replace the little basket strainer filter in the resevoir.

Thanks for your replies. Any tips on bleeding? Presume it would be just like a brake system. Again thanks.

The system should be self-bleeding.
