Clutch Problems
I just converted my 190e to a manual and I am having some trouble getting the clutch to work. When I push my clutch in, it stays in. It feels firm about 75% of the way and than the spring pulls the petal to the floor past that. If I don't go past that point though, the petal will operate normally and come back out. I reverse bled the system using the front brake caliper and thought that I did a pretty good job. Could I still have air in the system or is it more likely that master cylinder is broken? I had to replace the slave cylinder because it was rusted out and I am worried that the master cylinder might be in equally bad condition.
Can anyone give me input on this or maybe give me some tricks for reverse bleeding? |
Your problem is not necessarily hydraulic. It could be mechanical. In the old days when lots and lots of American cars had manuals, you would see what you describe from time to time.
In extreme cases the diaphragm is pushed past center and stays disengaged. I'm not saying that this is your problem, but it is likely. You need to push in the clutch where the pedal stays down and then rock the car to see if the clutch is decoupled. If it is release the hydraulic pressure in some way and see if it stays decoupled. If it does then the problem is mechanical. Good luck, |
