long or short wb w140
im looking to get a s500 but i cant tell if its the long or short wb where is the differeance on each
|
I think the S500 are all long wheelbase models. The only difference as far as appearance as far as I know (between the S500 and shorter S320) is that the area between the front of the back door and the rear of that door is longer on the LWB model. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

This link might help:
http://auto.consumerguide.com/Auto/Used/reviews/full/index.cfm/id/2327/act/usedcarreviewspecs/ I believe that only the S320 came in the short wheelbase, I've seen 'S320's and 'S320 LWB's advertised - I've never seen a SWB S500. The coupes are even shorter though. |
I am 90% sure that in this country you could only get a SWB S320. The others were all long.
I can tell by looking at the rear door, after you look at enough of them you can tell. btw the SWB models are great around town cars. Both SWB W126 and W140's are much simpler to park and drive better around town. For highway use or if you carry clients in the back seats the LWB models are better. |
I think you both are correct. All of the SWB 140s I have seen were all S320s.
The 96' S500 are very nice cars, but rather costly to maintain! ENJOY! |
Almost correct, but not quite. The 92 400SE was SWB. And SWB V8s are are available in Europe.

I prefer the older model W140's.1996 and older, because they seem to have more features(reclining back seat, they seem to be heavier, they have the pockets on the door handles,etc...o I also like the A/C and heating controls better). Those models are very hard to find with low miles and in good condition.Even if you find one with low miles,it might now be in good condition.Thats why I stuck with a little bit newer one(1998).

If you ever look for a S320 and want to know if it is a LWB or SWB check the VIN#
LWB have "W33" some where in them and SWB have "W32" |

I don't know lets see I spent $500 this month on the SDL. My friend spent ohh maybe $50 on his S320. Nope he bought a car cover for like $100 so $150.:D All S class MB's are expensive to keep going. Unless you buy one as a beater fix nothing and drive it into the ground. |
