230e fuel problem

hi all,

long time since last post, have been living in different countries

Anyways, I posted a while back about an '84 230e that i couldn't get any power to. I have since got power and have succesfully started the car but only after pouring petrol into the carb/inlet. it burns this fuel and stalls. I think it's a problem with petrol getting to the carb as there is no petrol through to the injectors. What is my next course of action?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Jack

May I assume that you have fuel injection, and not a carburetor, and you are pouring fuel into the intake?

This wording is confusiong. A 'carb' does not have injectors, unless it's a Throttle Body Injector system that looks like a carburetor...

It does sound like a fuel supply problem, though.

You need to check the fuel supply system. Does the fuel pump pull fuel from the tank, supply and pressurize the accumulator and injector rail, and return excess fuel to the tank?

Without this supply of fuel the injectors have nothing to inject into the air introduced by the intake valves, the spark plugs have nothing to ignite with their spark, and the exhaust valves have nothing to exhaust...

well

you have to start at the tank and work your way forward.
1. verify that you have fuel in the tank (prbly not nec).
2. starting with the fittings on the tank loosten and detect if fuel will leak out. the tank strainer which the outlet comes through could be plugged.
3. check output from the fuel pump which will be located back beside the tank.
4. if you have output at the fuel pump the next place is to follow the fuel line forward and see if you have output at the engine. if yoiu dont and you do at the fuel pump you could have a pinched fuel line.
5. the next place you could have a problem is the fuel distributor.
6. you already know that you dont have fuel at the injector, so somewhere between there and the tank (you do have fuel in the tank, right?) there is a problem to find.

good luck.

keep trying......

hi all,

have been doing some diagnostic work on the merc, have disconnected the fuel lines from the pump/distributor and tried to blow down each of them - to no avail. Thus leading me to believe there is a block in the line somewhere (unless of course i'm blowing against a valve of some kind?) Got the car running and ticking over nicely whilst pouring petrol down the intake, however once the fuel had been burned, it died

Any advice on unblocking the lines? If that is the problem of course, also, we checked the fuel pump next to the tank, it is filling with fuel but not kicking it through (probably the blocked lines!) Could be a possible lack of pressure from the pump?

As always, any advice is greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

Jack

well

as noted above you need to start with the pump. if it is not pushing fuel out then you wont be able to do any good further down the line.
