1991 230e distributor

Hi, I bought a 1991 230e last year and i recently discovered that it had a 1985 distributor, the one with the vaccum advancer. the electrical of the engine is the early mechanical fuel injection one. the power of the engine is good. the fuel economy is not too bad. My question is if i changed the distributor to the 1991 one and got a new wiring loom for the sensors and a computer will I have a better performane and economy or u advice to keep things not changed.
Thanks a lot. Abe
