MB 123 Brake pads...

Hello everybody - have any of you people had any experience with replacing brake pads? My question is this - can you get burned (or squeeked) by using cheap brake pads? what brake pads are best, and which ones, if any, are to be avoided? Where is the best place to get new brake pads? I have seen nice and cheap brake pads on Ebay, are they o.k.? ~Levon~

On the rear brake pads use only textar or ATE or oem style brake pads. Anything else will squeek! Fronts you will get a squeek if you use cheap pads. Textar pads will dust excessively and wear out quickly but will brake great. ATE pads will not dust as much as textar but also will not grab as well. They will last longer. There are other pads out there that will work fine just do not go to the local auto parts place as they will probably only have pads that will squeek. Look around and you should be able to find someone selling them for 25 to 40 dollars a set. John

At least when I changed my front pads a few weeks ago, Textar was the brand that came in the Mercedes box for my W124. It's dusty, but quiet and stops well. I don't believe it is any more expensive than other OEM pad options. I've heard that Pagids tend to squeak, at least at first.

If you want a dustless pad, I've read here that PBR Deluxe is a good alternative.

I don't know about which mfg offer cheap pads, but for me, the marginal savings of getting a cheap set of pads is not worth the extra hassle of pads that squeak, or offer diminished braking performance. I mean, it's at most $30 per axle, I'd assume.
