What are these lug bolts for?

I inherited ten of the lugs bolts shown on the left. The one on the right is from my 240D with hubcaps. The bolt in question has the same thread pitch as the one on my 240D and might be maybe one thread longer. Notice the hollowed out cap. It has the Mercedes star and the letters KX on the end of the bolt. My first guess is that they might be from a 123 with bundt cake wheels. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks.

Len, I'm not sure what they are for, but if they follow Mercedes' profile, they would be for steel wheels, not alloy wheels, as evidenced by the hollow cap.

Yes, you are both right. One set is for steel wheels and the other for the alloy bundt wheels.

The alloy wheels were options on the lower priced models (240D and 300D) while the 300D turbo model came standard with them.

The alloys were so popular dealerships were installing them regularly but to shave costs, only four were installed, leaving the spare as the standard steel wheel.

So the length of the bolts on the bundt wheels are the same as on the steel wheels with the hubcaps? Is the hollow head original?

BTW, my "steel" wheels are an alloy of some type since they aren't magnetic, but they have the hubcaps, not the bundt.

no the aluminmu wheels take longer lugs

the hollowed out cap means nothing. it is just how the new ones are made if you order them. if you use those short lugs on alloy wheels they will break and the wheel will fall off!

or more properly they will prob strip out the hub.
