92 300E transmission service question.
My 1992 300-E has 37,000 miles on it and is due for its first transmission filter and fluid replacment. What specific tools will I need Torx or metric sockets? I cannot fine any good information even in the Haynes manual this subject is breifly shaded over but not discussed.
I wish to do this service right and would like to know as much as possible . The engine is a M103-983 single cam 6 cylinder with an automatic transmission. I have the sport line models and am not sure that that changes any of the service requirements any but I thought it should be mentioned .what are the tork valves for the drain plugs and tighting of the pan bolts with a new gasket? Is there a manual I can buy that covers the transmission serving and repair. Thank you Bob Geco Last edited by Bob G; 01-19-2006 at 06:05 PM. Reason: needed to add something |

Very straightforward. Jack her up. Jackstands of course.
Slide under there with a big screwdriver, a light , and a collection pan. Use the casting surrounding the torque converter as a fulcrum to lever the screw driver blade against the TConverter . Rotate it around, in the direction the engine normal runs, until the drain plug appears. It's an allen can't remember so bring a few under the car with you. Next drain the pan with the drain plug. Finally remove the pan bolts and drop the pan. Are we soaked yet? Filter is three phillips screws. Pan bolts are very low torque. I use an inch pound torque wrench, but you could get by with just a 1/4 inch ratchet and light torque. A word of caution, there are good tranny kits and not so good. I can't remember the name of the good ones, but that is what you want. There's a lot of info in the archives if you use the search feature. Enjoy, Steve |
