I have a question about cam timing on a 1994 300E with the 210 engine. A freind of mine who has never turned a wrench attempted to replace the head gasket on his vehicle himself(I can hear the shreiks of horror now). Now that it wont start he has asked for my help. It has been some time since I have worked on one of these engines and I don't remember how to set the cam timing so any help and/or diagrams would be helpful.
thanks a bunch 380SEGUY |
A 1994 would be an E320. The engine would be a 104 engine. A 210 is a body style for the '96 and later E class cars.
The cam timing is set up as follows. The crank is at TDC. The cams will be with #1 lobes at the top and the small 3-4mm hole in the back side of the cam gear flange will be resting at the flat edge of the head sealing surface. The only trick is making sure that the exhaust gear it timed in the fully retarded position. If the cam timing is off, the valves are bent. |
