2003 E320 trani leak
 

The fluid is coming from the connector. Is there suposed to be fluid in the pins? Or is it just the o-ring that needs to be replaced? Sorry for the poor res. (camera phone)

I think I've read about others having the same problem on this forum ( have you done a search here or at www.mbca.org ). I am not sure if it was a new connnector or o-ring. Is car under warranty?

The whole connector was updated with new seals. Visit your friendly MB
dealer for the new part. #203 540 00 53 and 4 qts of fluid #001 989 21 03 10
Ask dealer for assistance. Very very common problem.

Thanks for that....$16 from the dealer. Now how do you check the level?

I think the dealer has a computer that he uses to chk level. They use a very specific measuring system dependent upon temperature.

Temperature is the only reason for using the sophisticated tool. We often do a similar function with a infrared gun on the pan.

The actual fluid level is determined by a dipstick that is a special tool. It measures differently than normal sticks in that it is way longer than the tube, such that it works on any trans. It measures by passing through the tube till it hits the pan and then the level on the stick is the level of depth above the pan surface. A normal dipstick is tube specific as it is measuring the level from the tube down.

The dealership I work at buys several M.B.s a month, I have to do this repair on three cars so far, what is the measurement from the bottom and at what temp? I could fabricate a dipstick.
