79 280 sel self levelling suspension help
Hi , I need some help to bleed out the conaminated hydro suspension
system, the previous owner has used dexron 2 oil and i need to flush it out and replace it with the correct oil, i also need to set the heights up and get the system working properly... any hints ?? 79 280 sel right hand drive |
The return line comes to the top of the fluid reservoir. Connect a hose to the disconnected return line & PUT the other end of that hose into a container (several liters) Then start the car & add the correct fluid to the reservoir as the ATF works its way OUT of the system..

You will have to do that flush several times as the fluid in the struts and accumulators only circulates with the action of the suspension going up and down.
To do it completely, one would have to compress the struts, bleed the accumulators out, do the flush as Doc states and bleed the lines to the valves. If I had a drive on lift I would start by doing the flush then I would release the valve bleeders which would let the car sink and discharge the accumulators. With the bleeders open I would start the motor and bleed the lines. This is going to do a good job of the front end and lines. I would probably fill and raise the car then bleed it down at the valves a couple times to wash the struts. The struts and accumulators are the most vulnerable to the wrong fluid. |
