Hello,
I am changing my oil over the weekend. I have worked out what tools I need (with Larry's help!!). I am just wondering how much oil I need. I think Mobil 1 is available in 4 litre bottles from my local stockist, will this be enough to 'fill' the engine? Thanks |
Oliver,
You are going to need two of those 4 liter tubs of oil. The crankcase should hold about 2 US gallons, approximately 7.5L. Make sure you have a large enough drain pan, or you'll end up with a hot oil bath, 'sposed to be good for the complexion though ;). |
Thanks for the really quick response! This site is great :)

Double-Posted...
Oliver, or should I say, Oiliver...;)
You accidentally double posted this thread, just go to the bottom of the other one and click on the "edit/delete" button, then check the "delete" box at the top and then click "submit" and it will be gone...:D |
OOOPPPPSSS :)
Thanks for pointing that out! It must be my sticky mouse buttons :) Thanks |
Oliver,
Be careful not to over fill with the new oil. Put most of the second jug or tub or whatever you all use over there, then wait a couple of minutes and check the dip stick. Then, top off as needed. Be sure to check immediately and a few days later for leaks and consumption. It's nice to hear you are venturing into the "land of the DIY'er". You will get a good feeling of accomplishment. Good luck! |
It's really nice to hear everyone's tips, I'm starting to get excited for the weekend now!!! :)

According to the MB maint manual, your engine holds 6.3 qts(US) of oil. This is assuming you change the oil filter as well.
