Hi. Just a quick question. I have a 1989 300E and today it started making this noise on the front right wheel part. It's not exactly a rubbing sound, but sounds more like old unlubricated metal, kind of like an old door hinge. This sound eminates from the suspension portion only on the left side. I have checked and have no problems with lug clearance or tire rubbing in the past. I suspect that it is merely a joint that needs lubrication since the sound only occurs when I turn the wheel left or right. What shop can I go to fix this problem? Will a regular lube shop be able to handle it or will I have to go to my mechanic? Thanks alot.

Ben

It could be anything but, check the sway bar bushings (easy and cheap to replace).

Sounds like bushings to me. The part itself is cheap but they rip you off in labor. May want to do it yourself. I had this problem two years ago, MIDAS charged me $80 labor, the bushings cost $12.99. Good Luck

thanks everybody..but it seems that it makes the sound even when i am just driving...it is by no means a squeeking of metal sound, more it sounds more like rubber being twisted and rubbed against something else...i'm assuming it's the bushings...any chance it could be the shocks? and if it's the bushings, what's the cause? just old age? thanks in advance..

Is it cold there? Mine does this when it's cold. I've seen posts on this before. I think the solution was a liberal spray of WD40 on all suspension parts.

I know the rear stailizer links rattle like crazy when they are worn. I dunno.
