Removing rear brake disk
 

I am trying to remove my rear brake rotor on my '87 190D and am having difficulty doing so. According to the manual that I have, once the caliper has been taken off there is only one 'lock screw' to be removed. This had an allen key head on it and I have removed that and the disk still seems like it is pretty well attached. I've tried banging on it and pulling on it pretty hard. Is it just stuck or is there something else that I'm missing?? Thanks for the help.

It's either stuck or you've forgotten to release the emergency brake. If it's stuck do a search for tips on how to get it unstuck - heat, WD40, sledge hammer, etc. If it's the emergency brake release it.

I checked to see that the emergency brake is released. Is it just that one screw that holds the rotor on??? It seemed like a really small screw to be all that holds it...

Give it a couple of good raps like you mean it. :) and watch your toes if it pops off.

Yes, that screw only serves to locate the disc, while it is installed on the hub.
Beat on it HARDER. ;)

On a 560sl, it is possible to back off the emergency brake adjustment to get the shoes in a little before you rap it off. I had to do this, and it was still very difficult. I used a BFH. An ordinary mallet won't do it. Of course you then have to readjust the emergency brake when reinstalling.

it is very tight on the center of the disc. try some wd 40 at this joint and keep doing the above. the disc is very tough and you cant believe how hard you can hit it and pry on it w/o harming it.
