CFM of a standard 500SE fan
Does anyone know hoy many CFM a 500SE (1990, UK model, probably the same as the 560 at a guess...) fan draws through when fully engaged? The reason I'm asking is because I'm putting the engine in my 190e (see pics/thread in Performance Paddock) and I'm going to have to use electric fan/s due to space restrictions and need to know what size I need....!

I don't know as yet.... I was trying to ascertain how much air the standard fan off the donor vehicle flows, so I can get an electric one that flows similar/more.
I probably didn't write the question very well, but this should clear it up, cheers! Thanks, Martin

It's not a matter of CFM. I drove a 17.5 ltr 38 tonner IVECO all over Europe with an electric clutch on the rad' fan. It never came on unless pulling a load through the mountains. ( Had a switch on the dash to over-ride the automatic feature..ie: to keep it on all the time.)
The point is...you only need a fan when at low speed or stopped, and then the engine is making little power so the fan can be quite small and do the job of cooling. Any speed above 20 miles an hour will create enough draft to cool the motor. Your origonal fan will be quite adequate. I now have a 40 ft motor home with a 460ci Ford V8 motor that has only the electric fans (Pusher and a puller.) ..doesn't overheat and that was in 106 F temp's last year. .

Trouble is, the original fan on the 2.6 was also a viscous coupled fan, so I can't fit that either...
Also, the larger engine in the smaller bay will presumably generate more heat, so cooling may be an issue. Besides, in the queue for the drag strip on a hot summers day, the fan will ve very necessary! lol Cheers though, all information is being assimilated! Martin
