ICV jumper hose

Discussion came up earlier under "85 SE Idle Problems" about a mystery jumper hose that started appearing in 1987 V-8s. The hose in (small green hose) in attached picture was not installed in 1986 (i believe) and earlier V8s. My indie was able to improve my 1985 380SE's idle by retrofitting this jumper to it. The attached picture is from my 1987 560 SL. Question for the experts is why did mercedes add this and will retrofitting it to earlier V8s help with performance? |
Maybe its to mitigate the idle stalling problem that a lot of these cars have. For any DIYer of earlier models, I would think the diameter of that tube would be critical, as well as determining if the ICV has the same part number.

the hoses can be ordered from fastlane (like I just did)
the jumper is just a peice of vacuum tubing |
Any updates on this subject? My car has the 2 blank rubber ends facing each other without the hose in between. It wouldn't be much effort to punch some holes and try it. Who else has retrofitted their car this way?

I would be interested also, although I have no idle probelm amd even the ocasional blip in idle is gone since I installed new plug wires.
