My '85 300CD with 138K miles has light but irritating vibration at certain speeds. Gets worse when engine in under torque (going up hills). I've replace many things (engine/trans mounts, center bearing, flex discs, differential mount) but have not solved problem. Tires and wheels have been checked several times. Car is in great condition overall.
I'm now looking at half-shafts. I can move right half-shaft back and forth fairly easily (couple of inches?) but the left one is much harder to move. The left shaft also makes small "click" when I shake it by hand. Could these be my problem? Cost to replace both with remans is about $600 at shop but would be worth it to eliminate vibration. Thanks for your observations on this subject. Nic in SC |
My 123 had this when I bought it 3 years ago with about the same miles. I ignored it until it would make this awful noise that sounded like the rear end was going to fall out.
I paid $600.00 for one, if you can get both done for that and have the money, go ahead, it won't get better. |
You might try to find one at a salvage yard like potomac green...www.pgauto.com. They are much cheaper there, but are used.
