turn signal problem
hello there. It all started when my passenger rear turn signal light went out. When I went to replace the bulb the socket was all melted and charred. I bought a new socket and bulb(both new now) and realized that the turn signal works when the lights are not on. When the lights are on just the passenger side rear tail light doesn't work. I don't know what to do and need help before I get a ticket.

first replace the socket
it sounds like you might have a ground issue and it is backfeeding through other circuits.
if you still have the problem after changing the socket, come back and fill us in. if you have already changed it you still might have a ground problem. tom w

Either a short of grounding is bad, I would quickly
check this out could cause a fire. I' ve see broken grounds start an engine fire and it is no pleasant, especially if you have no extinguishing equipment.

Did it look like this?
I got ye' ol' light malfunction today on my E320. I pulled the right rear bulb socket and found one of the contacts melted. Some of the melted plastic appears to be on the metal housing in the tail assembly where the socket mounts. I ordered a new socket today from the dealer. I plan on using a little steel wool to clean up the housing, unless someone tells me a better way or that I should not do so. I hope replacing the socket fixes things.
