Since I didn't get much response on this question in the Detailing forum, I thought I'd post it here in hopes of some insight.

I purchased some of the concentrate that is suppose to go into the windshield washer tank. It's a genuine Mercedes part, called Formel VR 9422-15 Summerwash. It comes in a small plastic vial which holds 40 ml (1.34 fl oz).

The directions for use say:
Window washing agent. 1 bottle + 4 l water. Only mixable with Winterwash.

The part about adding the contents to 4 liters of water I understand. But I'm not sure I understand the part about "only mixable with Winterwash." Is it implying not to mix with other brands of W/W fluid, and only to mix (if at all) with Winterwash, another Mercedes product? (Which I'm guessing is an anti-icing product?) Anybody know what Winterwash is?

The true test is to call an actual Mercedes dealer's parts department. I would assume that there is something in the stuff that is not designed to be mixed with standard windshield washer fluid, and that what they are saying is that you should only mix with their winterized product, which is likely to contain a windshield de-icer.

Thank you, Scott. The dealer (a OE parts dealer, not a MB dealer) has tried without success in finding the answer....he's never been able to find any info on the Winterwash. I guess I should just try calling MBUSA.

Steve, I just replied to this thread in the detailing forum. If I recall right, the parts guy at my local dealer, Knopf Automotive in Allentown PA, was not sure about what Winterwash was either.

I think the Summerwash may contain enough surfactants to work alone with a water mix, but I could be wrong. Since I live in an area that has subfreezing temperatures several months of the year, freezing is an issue for me. Actually I just let my independent garage fill my reservoir with Wurth brand fluid. Smells nice too

Has anyone recently used the concentrated stuff that GM used to recommend? I guess my only real concern / question would be how much alcohol or whatever antifreeze agent is in a winter concentrate, vs the cheapie generic washer fluid.

Perhaps a chemistry gury could chime in here? Somehow my hunch is that it would take roughly a pint of alcohol to reduce the freezing temp of a gallon of water to -20F, but I've been wrong before. Thoughts?

I have used the concentrated GM stuff, it was pretty good.

Does anyone know where one might be able to find the Wurth windshield washer fluid? I was really impressed by its streak-free cleaning but unable to find it anywhere.
