The Reasons for a Slow turning Diesel Motor when starting.
Any internal issues ?im not hearing anything bad sounding noise down in the motor, just wont turn over fast enough, the battery is a 1000 amp out of my wagon ,and i reinstalled it ,the wagon kicks right off. ????????????
Car wont start with the help of ether ,not a cough, does the engine have to be turning fast for ether to kick it off,I think my whole problem is the engines turning rate ,which is slow ,any advise on next move ? |
Since you used a presumably good battery (it starts the wagon) I would have to guess the starter isn't spinning fast enough, could be a sign of a dying starter. Also, thicker oil when cold will cause the engine to crank slow. What weight oil are you running?

I've seen nearly seized alternators cause slow crank/no start problems. Try removing the belts one at a time and see what happens.

also check and clean all grounds including
engine to chassis. some times on an older car an extra ground helps from the neg on batt to the starter bolt.

A bad ground or tired starter will also cause those symptoms.

how many grounds
Ok ,the cars starter has been replaced, have the skinned knuckels to prove it,the solinoid bolt had been cranked down so hard that when i tried to unbolt it ,with out much force ,it came right out of the soiloid, busted ,so i think the starter was a good move, but still turns slow.Cleaned one ground at the lower transmission housing and chassis ,is there more?
