1991 300E 2.6 Exhaust

Hey, I have a leak in my exhaust right after the cat so I'm cutting out the mid muffler for 2 straight pipes to the rear muffler. Just so I don't have to wait till monday to get it into a heated garage to measure the width of the pipe, does anyone know the width? I'm thinking its 1.75 or 2 inch?

Being German, you can bet it's NOT inch-sized.

It won't be that straight forward. There are twin pipes between cat and middle muffler and a single pipe between middle muffler and rear muffler.

I would be very careful not to damage the convertor. I tried to take the middle and rear mufflers off and damaged the catalytic convertor. Then I had to replace all 3 pieces. I would suggest removing the middle muffler (resonator) and rear muffler very carefully and replacing them if they are leaking at all. These 2 pieces including all hardware were $498 from Mercedes for a 1991 300TE (3.0 liter). I ended up putting on an aftermarket catalytic convertor for $600 instead of the $1200 from Mercedes. It is a bit louder than the original.
