I have a 1992 500SL that has developed a high pitched squealing sound that seems to be getting progressively worse. It happens when I lower the top, it happens when the transmission upshifts, it happens when the engine is cold and the transmission is put into drive. It seems to be the same sound, seemingly coming from the same source. After driving for 20 minutes or so the squeal does not happen. Any ideas? Thanks,
JR

Maybe its a belt?

I've heard belts squeal before, maybe the belt is squealing until the heat of the engine heats it up?

I'm not a tech so thats just my opinion.

Does it sound like its coming from the front of the car? The rear? that might help the techs here diagnose it better.

Alon
