MB C 220CDI km meter (by the newest member!)

Hello to everyone! I'm from Portugal and have just registered. My (my dad's, actually) Mercedes is a W202 220CDI. I thought I could learn something and clear some doubts here with this big comunity. ;)

For now, the thing is:
I would like to know if it's possible to determine the actual car's milage (digital meter) in an official MB stand.
I suspect the counter has been corrupted and it now displays less kms than it probably has... The car has been imported from France.

Assume the car is a 1998 or later???? Depending on the year the instrument cluster can't be changed unless the fuel system computer & electronic ignition switch is also replaced!

June 1998.

I'm not saying the instrument panel could have been exchanged! I guess it's still the original one...

What I think is; they have maybe retarded the counter (like those bastard dealers do very often with the analogic odometers  ). It's just that mine is a digital one (as you probably are aware) and I would like to know if there is a way to verify if the displayed Km are the actual km the car has covered http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...cons/icon4.gif

You know what I mean?! http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...cons/icon3.gif

It's easy. You can buy little devices all over the place for altering digital odos, and MB's units are one of the easiest to tamper with.

Does that mean theres a way to detect that faulty action and determine the real Kms?

Nope.

There isn't a way to know the real Km?! Not even in a MB stand?
:(

Nope. No way at all, not even in an "MB stand," whatever that may be. Once it's been "clocked" you will have no way to tell it's been altered. The best protection is service records.

I got it. Thank you. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...ons/icon14.gif
