central locking pump ..... refurb possible?
 

Hi all,
I have a W124 that keeps blowing the fuse for the central locking
The pump is working fine but after a few uses will blow the fuse.

The wiring under the carpets looks ok and i have now taken the pump itself out of the car....is it a serviceable item or should it be replaced....if it is working (pumping and blowing) would it be the culprit of the short or should i seek wires further up the harness for the problem?

PS....the pump had been working harder than usual for the last two days as i had a leek in one of the door acuators....removed and blocked off waiting for the part.

The way to know is to actually test the current draw of the pump - but it would likely be a waste of time. Electric motors typically draw too much current for one of two reasons - either the bearing lubricant has dried up and turned to varnish, or the motor electrical insulation has failed, causing shorts between windings, or powerful eddy currents through the iron laminations of the magnetic structure. The latter is unrepairable. The former can be cured if the motor bearings can be disassembled, cleaned, and re-lubed or replaced as needed.

is a bit scary for me....might have to take the car to the auto electrician to get it checked out.
