Kumho 795s Discontinued?
 

I posted this in Wheels/Tires also, just in case...

I got my Kumho 795s at Discount Tire about 1.5 years ago, now they don't seem to carry them (if the website is any indication). They have a 758 and some other model, but not the 795. As many of you may be aware, this is a great replacement that outperforms many other tires made for the W124, and can be had for under $250 out the door.

I looked on Tire Rack and they're not there either. Have they been discontinued?

It looks like the 758 can be had for $200 out the door, but at what sacrifice? Tire Rack's tech section seems to indicate they aren't as good on ice/snow so that leads me to believe that overall they just aren't as good as the 795s.

Any ideas anyone?

I have 758s on my 300D-I don't drive it in snow very often, but when I have they've been fine. I think Kumho is the best-kept secret in cheap tires-I have about 4000 miles on mine and they haven't needed rebalanced yet.

Well, I went ahead and got the Kumho Power Star 758 tires, and I must say so far they appear to be every bit as good as the 795 tires were. I've taken them to the limit on some ramps and the car appears to stick as before, also these tires seem to be every bit as quiet as the 795s. Of course we'll have to wait for another rainy day to be sure about traction (and I don't really drive the 300E in the rain). I noticed these tires are section molded which is also a plus - no clamshell here. Total price: $260 even out the door.

Incidentally, the 795s are still available, but apparently the price has gone up substantially. I think it would have come out to about $325 for a set, versus the $260 I paid for them just a year and a half ago. Is there a shortage in rubber or something?

tirerack.com has power stars at $34.00 EA. 795's at $39.00 EA., not a bad deal.

kumho, are the best for cheapies don't know about wet, on dry they hold very well on stock rims, better then cheap Pirelli or continentials on my 18" AMG wheels. I was shock by them. Yokohomas are very good too. The Pirelli and Continential I had was not their top of the line but they cost more than three times that of the Kumho. Don't get mad If you disagree, on this forum it not so bad, most people are respectable even if they don't agree, from my experience here. Good choice on the kumhos (sounds like:P Kum HO)
